Your news: South Barrington Garden Club tours nursery

Members of the South Barrington Garden Club toured Rich's Foxwillow Pines Nursery in Woodstock Thursday, July 1. The nursery emphasizes dwarf plant material specially suited for modern downsized spaces. A presentation was given on appropriate tree selection based on growth habit and sun requirements.

Join the club for its"Extend the Summer Bounty of Herbs" lecture, Thursday, Sept. 2. Speaker, Kathy Vitalo will discuss tasting, smelling and identifying herbs depending on the season. Handouts will be provided on the growing of herbs, their culinary uses and recipes that use them. Herb vinegars will be available for purchase. The meeting will begin at 9 a.m. at the South Barrington Park District followed by the program.

Meetings for the South Barrington Garden Club (SBGC) are held or originate at the South Barrington Park District, 3 Tennis Club Lane, at 9 a.m. on the first Thursday morning of the month year-round. The club is open to all residents and nonresidents. Programs consist of speakers, hands-on-projects and bus trips to points of interest in the area, followed by a lunch at a local restaurant. Membership fee is $25 for South Barrington residents and $35 for nonresidents.
