Buffalo Grove club to host Red Stars soccer exhibition

The Chicago Red Stars of Women's Professional Soccer and their W-League affiliate Chicago Red Eleven will meet for an exhibition match at 6:30 p.m. Friday in Buffalo Grove.

The Schwaben Athletic Club field, 301 Weiland Ave., will host the match, with general admission tickets for $10, with children ages 6 admitted free.

While several Red Stars have been called up for national team duty, other reserves will be pressed into action.

"We're definitely looking forward to seeing a few familiar faces," Red Stars Head Coach Emma Hayes said. "But most importantly, this game will give some of our players who haven't played a chance to see if they can compete for a starting position for the Bay Area game."

The Red Stars and WPS are on a bye week, and the team wants to get back on track when it hosts first-place FC Gold Pride on May 29.

On Friday, Red Stars developmental goalkeeper Meghann Burke is slated to get the start against Red Eleven.

The exhibition also serves as an important tuneup for Red Eleven's W-League season, which gets under way on May 29, when the team hosts the Buffalo Flash in Lisle.
