Stutzman's 1-hitter powers Fremd

Fremd 7, Clemente 0: Junior lefty Sean Stutzman threw a 1-hitter and had 14 strikeouts for host Fremd (1-3) in the nonconference win.

Stutzman gave up a hard smash to shortstop to start the seventh that was ruled a hit. He gave up 3 walks and threw 88 pitches.

Clint Terry went 2-for-3 with a 2-run homer, Kurt Kaufman was 2-for-4 and Jimmy Latal stole 2 bases.

Meadows 16, Maine East 0 (5 inn.): Sophomore Matt Hendricks hit a 3-run homer in a 10-run first and John Bonell went 3-for-4 with 2 doubles and 5 RBI for Rolling Meadows (1-4).

Eric Lowe went 3-for-3 with 2 RBI and Steve Heer, Mike Levy and Kevin Cwynar combined on the 5-hitter.

Meadows did lose its most experienced returnee, junior infielder Kyle Krzeski, for four-to-six weeks with a broken collarbone suffered Saturday.

Leyden 16, Maine West 8 (5 inn.): Leyden's offense had nowhere to go but up after it was no-hit in its season opener.

The Eagles (4-1) continued their ascent in their fourth straight win which was called after five innings because of darkness.

Carlos Olavarria (4-for-5, triple, 2 RBI), winning pitcher Jeremy Stawychny (2 doubles, 3 RBI), Dan Savas (3-for-4, 4 RBI), Dom Messina (2-for-4, 2 RBI) and Justin Stawychny (homer) led the onslaught.
