St. Charles man faces child porn charge

A Kane County judge set bond Tuesday at $250,000 for a St. Charles man charged with possession of child pornography.

Javier T. Sanchez, 23, was arrested Monday after forensic tests uncovered "several" images of child pornography on his computer, which was seized earlier this month after his arrest on a trespassing charge at St. Charles North High School, police said.

School District 303 spokesman Jim Blaney said Sanchez had been notified in writing Jan. 4 to "stay away" from school property. The letter was in response to reports that Sanchez was seen outside several near-east side schools, according to police.

"By our determination, he had no reason to be there," Blaney said.

On March 2, Sanchez was arrested on a trespassing charge after a police liaison stationed at North spotted him in the parking lot, St. Charles police spokesman Paul McCurtain said.

Police said there also were "several incidents around that time when female students reported they were being 'watched' at various bus stops by a subject matching Sanchez's description" who drove a vehicle like Sanchez's.

A day after the arrest at North, police searched Sanchez's home on the 1800 block of Ronzheimer Avenue and seized his computer. Forensic investigators later uncovered child pornography on the hard drive, police said.

According to court records, Sanchez has prior convictions in Kane County for disorderly conduct, trespass and contributing to the delinquency of a child, among other offenses. Last May, he was sentenced to five months of conditional discharge and 18 days in the county jail for public indecency, stemming from a "lewd exposure" incident in St. Charles.

Sanchez, who is due in court April 8 and does not appear to have an attorney, was in the county jail Tuesday. He would have to post $25,000 cash to be released.
