Rose taken aback by back-to-back

Derrick Rose received some bad news recently, or maybe just a reminder that he needs to check the schedule more closely.

After wrapping up the two-week "ice show" road trip, then playing four games in five nights last week, the Bulls have one more back-to-back before hitting the all-star beak. They play at Indiana on Tuesday, then return home to face Orlando.

"It's been rough," Rose said Monday at the Berto Center. "I didn't know we played Wednesday. So for that to be a back-to-back, that really spoiled my day."

Rose wasn't quite sure how the Bulls managed to win five in a row at the end of the road trip, then dropped three straight winnable games before beating Miami on Saturday without Joakim Noah (sore foot) or Tyrus Thomas (suspended).

"I don't know how we're going to stay consistent, but we've just got to find a way, I guess," he said. "During games, we've got to make sure we don't have the turnovers we usually have or come out with the lack of focus that we usually have. Everybody's just got to prepare for the game."

It's not Kirk Hinrich, obviously. The answer is Lindsey Hunter, who scored 48 points for Jackson State in a game played in Hawaii on Dec. 27, 1992.

Hunter told AOL Fanhouse on Saturday that he plans to retire at the end of the season. That's a surprise to no one since he's the league's oldest active player at 39.

Battle of the boards: Between Dec. 11 and Feb. 2, the Bulls out-rebounded their opponent in 21 of 26 games. Now they've lost the rebound battle in three straight games, with center Joakim Noah missing the last two with a foot injury.

Bull horns: Luol Deng skipped Monday's practice with a sore right shoulder, but he is expected to play against Indiana. - The Pacers announced Monday that veteran center Jeff Foster will undergo back surgery and will miss the remainder of the season.
