NLRB threatens complaint against Chicago company

A regional director for the National Labor Relations Board says if Republic Windows and Doors doesn't reach a settlement with the United Electrical, Radio and Machine Workers of America, then the federal agency will issue a formal complaint against the company.
About 200 laid-off workers briefly occupied the Chicago factory in December after Republic gave them just days notice before shutting down. The weeklong protest drew national attention.
NLRB regional director Joseph Barker says Republic created a new company in Iowa to avoid its collective bargaining agreement with the union, which filed an unfair labor practice charge against Republic in January.
The Chicago plant since has been purchased by a California company and will reopen.
