Reading program at Glen Ellyn library supports World Relief

A summer reading program at the Glen Ellyn Public Library has raised $2,000 for World Relief, a refugee resettlement agency.

The Friends of the Library and the Glen Ellyn Library Foundation each donated $1,000 to World Relief after program participants reached a summertime reading goal.

"We are always excited to partner with organizations in our community to work toward shared goals that also encourage reading," Library Director Dawn Bussey said in a statement.

For nearly a decade, the library's summer reading program has doubled as a philanthropic fundraiser. This summer, the library partnered with World Relief and challenged readers to achieve a combined reading goal of 40,000 points.

World Relief Chicagoland helps refugee families with housing, employment, mental health, English language classes and youth supports.
