An Ela Township man was apprehended by members of the Lake County Sheriff's Warrants team and U.S. Marshals on Thursday morning.

Matthew T. Heidbrick, 27, had two warrants out for his arrest, according to the Sgt. Christopher Covelli, Lake County Sheriff's public information officer. The first warrant was issued after he failed to appear in court on drug charges. The second was issued in a civil case, requiring Heidbrick to be taken into custody until payment of a $6,000 cash bond.

Heidbrick was found Thursday morning hiding in the attic of his residence in the 25700 block of North Gilmer Road. After refusing to surrender and barricading himself further inside the attic, deputies were able to breach a hole in the back wall to send in the sheriff's canine, Dax, according to reports. Covelli said that Heidbrick resisted, "punching the dog several times" before being apprehended. He was treated at a hospital for a dog bite before being released back into custody.

Heidbrick has been charged with three class A misdemeanors, in addition to the prior charges.

In bond court Thursday afternoon, his bond was increased to $250,000. His next court date is March 15 at 9 a.m.
