Students and teachers from Fremont Elementary District 79 are pitching in to support the Fremont Township Food Pantry.
On Wednesday, Fremont Elementary School students shopped at the Mundelein Target to help replenish the pantry's shelves with items including cereal, crackers, applesauce, pasta, granola bars and tissues. Personal care products were also purchased.
Parents were on hand to pay for the items their children selected that were loaded onto a bus. The items were delivered to the pantry after the shopping spree.
Fremont Elementary School Associate Principal Jennifer Haack said the shopping event is a great opportunity for students, teachers and families to give back to the community.
"We wanted to find a creative way to provide resources for the Fremont Food Pantry, so we thought that students shopping with teachers for food pantry items would make for an exciting and impactful experience," Haack said.
The Fremont Township Food Pantry provides nonperishable food items to around 80 residents a month.
A second Target shopping trip is planned for Monday, March 19 for Fremont Intermediate School teachers and students.
