NIU Steelband to perform March 23 at Norris Cultural Arts Center
The internationally acclaimed Northern Illinois University Steelband returns to the Norris Cultural Arts Center theater at 7:30 p.m. Friday, March 23, for a rousing evening of steel pan music, appealing to music lovers of all ages and tastes.
Created in 1973 as the first band of its kind at an American university, the NIU Steelband has played throughout the U.S. and around the world.

Guests also may enjoy viewing The Norris gallery's "Watercolor 2018" exhibit, encompassing more than 100 original works in water-based media.
The current season of events at The Norris includes two more events following the NIU Steelband.
At 3 p.m. Sunday, April 8, in the Norris gallery, actress Debra Miller appears as novelist Jane Austen in "Jane Austen Speaks," an intimate portrayal of one of history's great novelists.
At 7:30 p.m. Saturday, May 5, in the Norris theater, world guitarist Fareed Haque will perform both jazz and contemporary classical music with his jazz quartet and a chamber ensemble.
