I recently photographed girls state gymnastics at Palatine High School and noticed for the first time that one of the girls was using white chalk on her feet during the floor routine. White chalk is common at every gym where there are gymnastics as it improves grip strength and absorbs sweat. I have seen it used on hands and legs before, but never the bottom of the foot, which makes me think that she had a leg up on the rest of the competition.
