Marmion Academy junior Antonio Petrucci of St. Charles has been selected to sing tenor at the All-State Illinois Music Education Association Conference in Peoria.

This state music conference will meet Jan. 25-27, culminating in a band, orchestra, and chorus concert Saturday, Jan. 27, at the Peoria Civic Center. Petrucci will spend three days working with the top vocalists in the state under the direction of Josephine Lee, conductor of the Chicago Children's Chorus.

Students selected for the All-State ILMEA Conference began the process by auditioning for the District 9 festival Oct. 3 at Addison Trail High School.

Based on their performances, Petrucci, along with four other Marmion vocalists, juniors Jared Beltz of Aurora, Greg Hoover of Sugar Grove, Cameron Merker of West Chicago and sophomore Armande Naseem of Naperville, were selected to participate in the District Festival Nov. 4 at Elgin High School.

They spent two days rehearsing with 200 other singers from across the state of Illinois preparing for the district concert on the third day. The best of those vocalists were then invited to attend the All-State ILMEA Conference in January.

Petrucci has been singing with the Marmion Men's Chorus since his freshman year. He has advanced to singing tenor in the advanced choral ensemble this year.

Petrucci also shares his talents with the Ss. Peter and Paul choir in Naperville. In 2015, he participated in the District 9 Freshman/Sophomore choir. His continuous efforts and dedication to his music and performance techniques has earned him this great achievement.

Petrucci is the first vocalist of the Marmion Men's Chorus to earn this prestigious honor in more than 10 years. The last Marmion student to participate in this festival was Thomas Schafer, Class of 2014, (trumpet) in 2014.

The Marmion Men's Chorus is under the direction of Brian Birch. Marmion Academy, a Catholic-Benedictine college preparatory school for young men, is a community dedicated to spiritual formation, academic excellence and leadership development.
