College of DuPage, Fulbright Association Host Cybersecurity Expert Panel
College of DuPage, in partnership with the Fulbright Association Chicago Chapter, will host "Shedding Light on the Dark Net: Cybersecurity" from 2 to 3 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 14, in the Student Services Center, Room 2201, on the Glen Ellyn campus, 425 Fawell Blvd.
The panel includes cybersecurity specialist Yilmaz Halac, who led cybersecurity efforts during the NATO summit in Chicago, and members of COD faculty including Fulbright alumni. Participants will discuss current cybersecurity threats and prevention methods. Panelists also will discuss the threats in the cyberspace environment and highlight the need for increased security as well as how institutions of higher learning are being impacted by this worldwide epidemic.
"Between 2008 and the present, cybercrime has had a tremendous impact and cost billons of dollars worldwide," said Mary Mares-Awe, Fulbright Chicago Chapter President and adjunct professor in Mass Communication at College of DuPage. "Is our government doing enough? It's also important to ask how we protect ourselves as individuals and as a society."
"Shedding Light on the Dark Net: Cybersecurity" is the Chicago Chapter of the Fulbright Association's inaugural event at College of DuPage and is designed to increase the Fulbright awareness on campus. The program is being held in conjunction with the College's Global Education Week. Click here for more information on all Global Education Week events.
