'The Four Chaplains' to be honored as part of St. James Episcopal's Veterans Day service
St. James Episcopal Church, 516 Washington St. in West Dundee, will be honoring all veterans on Sunday, Nov. 12, by celebrating the heroic act of "The Four Chaplains" at the 8 and 10 a.m. services.
Come learn the story of Methodist pastor George Fox, Catholic priest John Washington, Rabbi Alexander Goode and Reformed Church in America minister Clark Poling.
These four chaplains have been honored for their bravery as they saved the lives of soldiers on the SS Dorchester, a transport ship which had been torpedoed by a German submarine off Newfoundland on Feb. 3, 1943.
They have been remembered in memorials and chapels, and a special window honors them in the Pentagon Chapel.
St. James Episcopal Church is a historic congregation that has served Northern Kane County and the Fox River Valley for 153 years. Its mission is to share the Good News of Jesus Christ as they welcome, teach and serve all God's people.
