A 62-year-old Warrenville man pleaded not guilty Monday to charges he triggered a fiery September crash in Wheaton that killed an Elgin woman.
Brian Thunderkick, of the 2S600 block of Pierre Curie Lane, is charged with reckless homicide, attempted leaving the scene of an accident involving death and aggravated battery stemming from a Sept. 30 crash when authorities said he was driving 135 mph down Butterfield Road and struck another car from behind.
The driver of the second car, 22-year-old Erika Villagomez of Elgin, was trapped in her vehicle as it burst into flames and she died before she could be rescued.
Thunderkick recently was hospitalized at the county health department and treated for "mental health issues and crisis stabilization." He is free on bail.
Prosecutors on Monday said they still are awaiting the results of a DUI kit before determining whether to seek additional charges against Thunderkick, including aggravated DUI.
His next court date is set for Dec. 19.
