Glenbard South handles Panthers
Glenbard South's boys basketball team (1-0) took a 17-6 first-quarter lead at the District 87 tournament opener Monday and went on to a 70-52 victory over Glenbard North is season-opening play for both teams. Andy Manson scored a game-high 21 points and Louis Erkins added 12 for the Raiders. Glenbard North (0-1) got 12 points from Marko Govedarica, 11 from James Fleming and 10 from Ryan Gasiorowski.
Wheaton Warrenville South 73, Collins 50: Derek Babb's 23 points and 10 from Mason Kienzle led WW South (1-0) at Wheaton Academy.
Wheaton Academy 68, South Shore 60: Tourney host Wheaton Academy (1-0) was led by Ben Euler's 25 points, plus 15 from Tim Rusthoven and 12 by Jason Roy.
Immaculate Conception 72, LaMoille 41: Brendan Ryan made five 3-pointers and scored 19 points to lead the Knights (1-0) at Somonauk. Matt Purdom chipped in 11 points.
Payton 65, Naperville North 61: Jake Hasse scored 9 of his team-high 21 points in the fourth quarter but Payton held on to win at the Hoops for Healing Tournament at Naperville North. Austin Weiss added 16 points for Naperville North (0-1).
