Accident in Itasca closes part of I-355 for 45 minutes
A minor crash in Itasca that required fire personnel to cut a man out of his car, temporarily shut down a northern portion of the Veterans Memorial Tollway Saturday afternoon, officials said.
"It was not a serious-injury accident," Illinois State Police Master Sgt. Bart Lamb said. "The door was evidently jammed shut."
Authorities said that around 4 p.m., a man driving a Chevrolet Lumina rear ended a pickup truck parked in a construction zone.
Lt. Rob Pokorny of the Itasca Fire Department said the man was driving between 60 and 65 mph in the 45 mph construction zone north of Lake Street and south of the I-290 split, with workers present.
The man was alone in the vehicle and there were no other injuries, Lamb said.
Authorities reduced traffic to one lane for 45 minutes while fire personnel from Itasca worked on the man and took him to Alexian Brothers Medical Center in Elk Grove Village.
The man was treated there for minor injuries, but information on the man's name, age and town were not available Saturday night.
Lamb said the man will likely be cited for speeding in a construction zone.
Firefighters from nearby Addison also responded to the crash.
