Kane Co. cops seize kilo of cocaine in Elgin

Kane County sheriff's detectives seized more than a kilogram of cocaine Wednesday from a residence on the 1000 block of Adams Street in Elgin, police said.

Juan Quinonez, 30, was arrested at the house and charged with possession of a controlled substance with intent to deliver and possession of a controlled substance, authorities said.

Sheriff's Lt. Pat Gengler said the arrest and drug seizure were the result of a two-month investigation culminating with a search warrant carried out about 9 a.m. Wednesday. The cocaine, which weighed in at more than two pounds, had a street value of more than $100,000, he said.

"When you get somebody at that level of drugs, that's not a personal use thing," Gengler said. "It has a higher impact than just getting somebody with an ounce or two."

Quinonez, who lives at the residence where the drugs were seized, was awaiting bond call Wednesday in the county jail, police said.
