Ecolab donates $2,000 for needy seniors in Humanitarian Service Project program
Humanitarian Service Project Program
Ecolab's Community Giving Campaign has given a $2,000 grant to benefit needy seniors in the Humanitarian Service Project's (HSP) Senior Citizens Project. This is the fifth year the Elk Grove Village-based company has supported the program that provides a monthly delivery of 90 lbs. of nutritious groceries, personal care items and gifts to impoverished senior citizens in the area.
Ecolab develops and markets cleaning, sanitizing, pest control, maintenance and repair products and services for the hospitality, institutional, and industrial markets on a global scale. According to Gloria Chavez, senior human resources representative, “Ecolab has always had a strong commitment to community service. The Humanitarian Service Project was chosen by a committee that represents our diverse workforce because the charity's SCP program serves impoverished senior citizens, an often overlooked segment of our community.”
The 120 impoverished seniors in HSP's Senior Citizens Project receive monthly deliveries of 90 lbs. of groceries that include a variety of fresh fruits and vegetables, frozen meats, non-perishable foods, personal care items and paper products. The seniors also receive a monthly “Secret Pal” gift and special Meal of the Month provided by HSP's volunteers. The Carol Stream based charity also has programs that serve needy children and families.
Karole Kettering, co-founder and executive director of HSP, said the support that Ecolab's grant provides “allows us to alleviate the suffering that poverty brings to these seniors and allows them to live with more dignity.”

About The Humanitarian Service Project
HSP's mission is to alleviate the pain and suffering that poverty creates in seniors and children living in DuPage and Kane counties, Illinois. Last year during the Christmas Offering, 1,264 children received gifts and 150 impoverished families received three weeks of groceries, frozen meats, and fresh produce. With the Senior Citizen Project, HSP provides a monthly food delivery and secret pal gifts to 120 low-income seniors. The Children's Birthday Project reaches the youngest underprivileged, making birthdays and Christmas truly memorable occasions for 700 children. Feed the Kids provides low-income families with groceries and fresh produce. HSP conducts an annual school supplies drive, which sends supplies to the DuPage Back to School Fair in addition to furnishing schools and individual children with necessary supplies.
