Batavia Bennigan's site could become breakfast spot

Batavia officials will review plans Wednesday to turn the former Bennigan's restaurant into the Honey-Jam Cafe.

The plan commission will discuss the restaurant's application at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Batavia Government Center, 100 N. Island Ave.

Honey-Jam Cafe would serve breakfast and lunch in the building at 521 N. Randall Road. Its owner is RJP Holdings, parent company of the Portillo's Restaurant Group. There is a Portillo's restaurant next door.

The Bennigan's restaurant closed suddenly in August 2008 when its privately held corporate owner, Metromedia Restaurant Group, declared bankruptcy and shut all of its company-owned Bennigan's.

RJP plans to completely change the interior and exterior look of the restaurant. Drawings of the design can be seen at cityofbatavia.net under the Plan Commission's agenda, or on a bulletin board on the first floor of the government center.
