Mount Prospect mom stars in new family travel TV show

Between the two of them, they have five children and a wealth of knowledge about family travel.

Mount Prospect moms Colleen Kelly and Tricia Fusilero are the team behind the new WTTW Channel 11 show, "Family Travel with Colleen Kelly," which premieres at 8:30 p.m. Friday.

Episodes also will air at 11 a.m. Saturday, May 5, and 5:30 p.m. Sunday, May 6.

The show stars Kelly, who guides viewers around family-friendly sites and restaurants in different cities, starting with her hometown of Chicago.

"A show about family travel has never been done before," says Kelly. "It's surprising how many people know about these great spots, but haven't visited them yet. We hope the show encourages other locals to check out what is right here in our own backyard."

Fusilero is the show's co-creator and executive producer. A Lake Forest College alumnus, Fulbright scholar and former teacher, she is now president of Travel Film Productions LLC. Her resume includes producing and editing the village of Mount Prospect's former business-spotlighting TV show, "ExMPTV."

Fusilero and Kelly met while working together on NBC's Emmy Award-winning show, "24/7 Chicago." Kelly's sister, Catie Keogh, of Arlington Heights, also worked on the show.

Outside of her television career, Kelly is a freelance travel writer and writes a monthly column for Irish American News.

"Family Travel with Colleen Kelly" is expected to air nationally on PBS stations starting next spring.
