Youth orchestras wrap season with concert, auction
The McHenry County Youth Orchestras, the ICO's “Youth Orchestra of the Year-April 2011” will present the final concert of the 2011-12 season titled “Drama & Passion” at 4 p.m. Sunday, May 20, at the Raue Center for the Arts, 25 N. Williams St., Crystal Lake. A small silent auction will be held before the concert and during intermission.
MCYO's Intermezzo and Symphony orchestras will be performing pieces which will inspire drama and passion. The Intermezzo Orchestra's performance will include Bizet's Carmen Suite No. 1 in their repertoire for this concert.
The Intermezzo Orchestra will be conducted by Andrew Malovance. The Symphony Orchestra will perform “Romeo and Juliet” by Tchaikovsky and Strauss' “Die Fledermaus.” In addition, the Concerto winner Michael Yoo, principal trumpet, will be performing Gershwin's “Rhapsody in Blue” on the piano, accompanied by the Symphony Orchestra. The Symphony Orchestra will be conducted by music director Eugene Power.
Tickets are $18 for adults, $15 for students and seniors, and $52 for families of up to five. All alumni tickets are $10. Call the Raue box office at (815) 356-9212 for seat selection.
