Boys volleyball: McDonald helps Vernon Hills outlast Warren
Jack McDonald had 15 kills, 5 aces and 9 digs, and Vernon Hills' boys volleyball team defeated visiting Warren 25-22, 23-25, 25-22 in nonconference action Tuesday night.
Vernon Hills (4-2) also got big performances from Sammy Adkisson (18 digs, 16 assists, 3 aces), Krys Han (12 kills, 5 digs, 1 solo block), EJ Demas (9 assists, 9 digs), Erik Giezycki (9 assists), Joey Reyes (3 kills, 2 blocks), Josh Ludolph (3 kills, 1 block), Greg Tow (7 digs, 1 kill) and Ryan Pristas (7 digs, 1 ace).
"We made a nice little comeback after too many errors in the first set, then I gave our guys a new lineup in set two, and after they got settled in, the offense looked really good," Cougars coach Chris Curry said. "But it was unfamiliar, and it probably caused us to be a little hesitant in defense and passing. But, credit the guys, the started fast in the third set, served tougher, and got it done. We're still at the point of the season where we want to roll a lot of guys out there, see what they can do in different spots and different combinations. We're very much still experimenting and learning who we are."
Carmel d. Antioch: Mike Scott racked up 20 kills and 4 blocks, as the Corsairs rallied to win the nonconference match 8-25, 26-24, 31-29.
Carmel (1-2) also received 31 assists and 13 digs from Sean Seidl. Camden Strutzel (2 kills, 1 block), Andersen Ptasienski (4 kills, 1 ace), David Foecking (4 kills) and David Jakubek (1 ace) contributed to the win as well.
