Former gubernatorial candidate Rick Heidner buys $5.2M Barrington mansion from Motorola Solutions CEO

Video gambling operator and former gubernatorial candidate Rick Heidner on July 24 paid $5.2 million to buy a seven-bedroom, 27,000-square-foot stone country manor-style mansion on 10.2 acres in Barrington from Motorola Solutions chairman and CEO Greg Brown.

Public records show that a limited liability company led by Heidner, who ran unsuccessfully in March in the GOP primary for governor, bought the estate from Brown, who has been CEO of Chicago-based Motorola Solutions since 2008.

With about 8% of the vote in the Republican primary, Heidner lost to winner Darren Bailey, who snared 53% of the vote and now is facing off in the general election for governor in a rematch against incumbent Democratic Gov. JB Pritzker.

Longtime real estate developers and managers, Heidner and his wife, Alisa, in 2012 founded Gold Rush Gaming, which now operates in more than 700 locations around Illinois. The Heidners also own the Ricky Rockets fuel center gas station chain and a wholesale fuel supplier.

In Barrington, Brown built the home in 2009 after buying the land on which it sits in 2007 for $1.5 million. With New England-inspired interior design, the mansion has a two-story entry, nine full bathrooms, two half bathrooms, eight fireplaces, an elevator, hardwood floors, custom stonework, thick crown moldings, coffered ceilings, wainscoting, millwork, cabinetry and built-in bookcases. The mansion also has a double open circular staircase, an oversized island in the kitchen that seats 12 people, a butler’s pantry and a first-floor primary bedroom suite with a two-story walk-in closet with custom built-ins and center islands.

Other features include laundry rooms on both the first and second floors, separate his and hers private offices, an all-mahogany pub room, a lower-level game room, a private movie theater with a ticket window, a custom pizza bar and an indoor half-court basketball court.

The property includes a grand paver driveway, a six-car garage, an in-ground pool, a pool cabana with a bath, and an outdoor brick fireplace.

Brown first listed the estate in April for $5.9 million.

Real estate agent John Morrison, who represented the Heidners, declined to comment on the transaction.

The Browns also have a home in Dover, Massachusetts, according to political donor records.

The estate had a $86,503 property tax bill in the 2024 tax year.
