Independent film to raise awareness and funding in fight against Alzheimer’s
Elgin, IL: Draysta Films, Cheevies Film Productions, and VIP Productions are combining their resources to produce the upcoming film, “Forget Me Not” as a fundraiser to assist in the fight against Alzheimer’s disease.
The feature length film is scheduled for release on June 20 to coincide with the “Longest Day to Fight Alzheimer's.” There will be film showings at Elgin Community College and McHenry County College.
Recent reports indicate there are over seven million people in the United States suffering with Alzheimer's disease, the most common form of dementia, and is the seventh leading cause of death in the country.
The film focuses on the effects Alzheimer's has on the family and friends of the afflicted. The film sheds light on some of the challenges for those caring for the patients of Alzheimer's and depicts real-life situations that show the progression of this debilitating disease.
All of those involved with the production, have had, or are currently dealing with family members or friends who are in some stage of the disease. Their firsthand experiences served as a catalyst to inspire them to be a part of the film.
MJ Carlson, who portrays Dr. MJ in the film, shared, “My mom passed away in 2001. My experience on this film was wonderful, helping me get closure.”
“I am honored to have portrayed a role in this film ‘Forget Me Not’,” said Glenda LaVelle, who plays the Mayor in the film. “My life experience with a family member has brought forth even more understanding of Alzheimer’s disease.”
The fundraising campaign will begin soon for “Forget Me Not,” and proceeds will go toward various causes that fight the disease.
