Northwest Bible Baptist to host annual ‘Hallelujah Chorus’ for Easter

The majestic “Hallelujah Chorus” from George Frideric Handel’s “Messiah” will again be sung by the 180-voice combined choirs of Elgin’s Northwest Bible Baptist Church and its Providence Baptist College, to open the evening service at 6 p.m. Sunday, April 20.

This popular Easter night’s choral performance is an annual tradition at Northwest, which marked its 51st anniversary this March. Everyone is invited to this event, in commemoration of the miraculous resurrection of the Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, God’s Son and the Messiah.

This Easter special will take place in the auditorium of the church, 9N889 Nesler Road on the far west side of Elgin. The church’s pastor is the Rev. Phil Cavanaugh, who three years ago succeeded Rev. Keith Gomez, who retired after 40 years of pastoring. Pastor Cavanaugh is a graduate of Northwest’s own Providence Baptist College; he previously served 10 years as a youth pastor and assistant pastor at First Baptist Church in Dwight, IL, and five years as co-pastor at Northwest Bible Baptist Church.

Church ministries include the Bible college; Christian school; 11 charitable Sunday school buses; a 517-acre summer camp in Rochelle; a worldwide missionary program and agency; an extensive outreach to nursing homes; a Spanish department; an active youth ministry; and distribution of free Bibles in several shopping areas.
