Vineyard Church of Elgin hosts Blue Christmas service

Songs about Christmas as that “most wonderful time of the year” don’t ring true for everyone; a “holly, jolly Christmas” can be hard to embrace when there’s been a recent death or divorce, financial uncertainty or troubles of many kinds.

Vineyard Church of Elgin will host a Blue Christmas service this Sunday, Dec. 8, for people who are struggling to find holiday joy or just need a quiet moment in the midst of the season.

This one-hour service acknowledges the struggle as real and valid and offers hope by allowing God to extend his comfort and strength. Those who attend will have the opportunity to receive personal prayer for their individual needs.

Everyone is invited to the Blue Christmas service at 4 p.m. at the church, 220 Division St.

Earlier on Sunday, Dec. 8, Pastor Tom Severson will preach on “Mary’s Magnificat” in week two of his Advent series titled “Heaven Touches Earth.” The service begins at 10 a.m. Arrive early at 9:30 a.m. for free coffee or tea from a wide selection at the coffee bar downstairs.
