Rangers snap Devils' winning streak at 9

Brendan Shanahan ripped a shot past Martin Brodeur 30 seconds into overtime, breaking a scoreless tie and snapping the New Jersey Devils' nine-game winning streak in the New York Rangers' 1-0 victory Sunday at Madison Square Garden in New York.

Henrik Lundqvist made 17 saves for his fifth shutout of the season. The Rangers snapped a three-game losing streak and improved to 4-0 against the Devils this season.

Red Wings 5, Hurricanes 2: Andreas Lilja's second-period goal broke a tie, and NHL-leading Detroit won its sixth-straight game by beating visiting Carolina.

Valtteri Filppula, Johan Franzen, Pavel Datsyuk, and Tomas Holmstrom also scored for the Red Wings. Jiri Hudler had 3 assists and Dominik Hasek made 15 saves.

Erik Cole scored both of Carolina's goals and Cam Ward stopped 31 shots.

Avalanche 9, Blues 5: Milan Hejduk notched his fifth-career hat trick and added 3 assists to lead host Colorado past St. Louis.

The Avalanche won the 1,000th game in franchise history and did it with the highest goal tally in the league so far this season.
