Elgin woman shot 1 block from police station
A 20-year-old Elgin woman was seriously injured after being shot at least twice early Friday morning in what police are calling a gang-related incident a block from the city's police station.
Elgin police spokeswoman Ann Dinges said officers were called at 1:20 a.m. to the 200 block of Douglas Avenue. The victim, who had been shot "multiple times," was found in an alley and taken to Sherman Hospital, she said.
Dinges said no arrests have been made, but officers did locate several people who had knowledge about the shooting.
Dinges did not know how many people were being detained for questioning or if they were male or female.
"At this point, there's been no one arrested per se," she said.
Dinges said shooting was "gang motivated" and the department's gang unit was investigating.
Authorities did not release the name or condition of the victim.
