2 charged in Ray's battery

Two Batavia men were charged with aggravated battery after attacking two people at a St. Charles tavern early Thursday, police said.

Gerardo Cervantes-Quintero, 26, and Pedro Alonso-Villagomez, 29, were arrested about 12:45 a.m. near Ray's Evergreen Grille, 1400 W. Main St., St. Charles.

Police said the men had entered the tavern together and approached two people they knew. Cervantes-Quintero then hit one of the victims in the back with a baseball bat, police said, while Alonso-Villagomez hit the other in the face with a beer bottle.

The men were arrested almost immediately after the attack by police who happened to be in the area and saw the suspects chasing a woman away from the tavern, authorities said.

Cervantes-Quintero was charged with two counts of aggravated battery. Alonso-Villagomez was charged with one count of aggravated battery and one count of cocaine possession, police said. Both men live on the 1000 block of Lorlyn Court in Batavia.

Bond was set at $35,000 for Alonso Villagomez and $50,000 for Cervantes-Quintero, who was wanted on five outstanding warrants for charges of obstructing justice, drunken driving, leaving the scene of an accident, driving without a license and failure to appear in court.

The men were unable to post bond and taken to the Kane County jail. Their next court appearance is Wednesday.

Police did not identify the victims, who were treated at Delnor-Community Hospital in Geneva.
