Ski-masked thieves hit GameStop in Round Lake Beach
Two masked thieves, one armed with a handgun, robbed a Round Lake Beach video-game store Sunday night.
The robbers hit GameStop, 617 E. Rollins Road, shortly before 8 p.m. as it was closing, police said.
Two employees were outside and preparing to lock up the store when they were confronted by the thieves, both of whom were wearing black ski masks and black jackets.
The robbers forced the workers back inside and locked one of them in a closet, police said. They made the other employee open a safe.
After taking an undisclosed sum from the safe, the robbers locked the second employee in the closet, police said. They stole some video games, then left.
One employee climbed into a false ceiling and over a wall to get free and call police. Neither was hurt.
Police are investigating whether the robbery is connected to any recent heists in the area.
Information about the thieves was sketchy. One robber was described as about 5 feet 7 inches tall. The other was about 6 feet 1 inch tall.
