Woman shot on Elgin's east side
A woman was shot Friday morning on Elgin's east side and is being treated at a hospital, but police are offering scant details so far on what occurred.
Meanwhile, police have arrested the man they say is responsible, but are not yet releasing his name because he has not yet been charged. However, they said that he and the woman were involved in a romantic relationship. At 11:43 a.m., the Elgin Fire Department received a call that a woman had been shot in the 400 block of Prospect Street, Battalion Chief Greg Benson said.
Fire personnel arrived two minutes later, treated the woman and drove her to Sherman Hospital.
Deputy Chief Jeff Swoboda said the woman was shot once in the right leg and that her injury is not life threatening.
Police also recovered a handgun on the scene.
