Health fair at McHenry Co. College
McHenry County residents are encouraged to take a walk through an 8-foot-long, 20-foot-tall inflatable replica of a human colon, called the Prevent Cancer Foundation's Super Colon™ and learn about prevention and treatment of colon cancer. The exhibit will be featured, along with many other informative exhibits, during the Centegra McHenry County Health Fair from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, May 2 at McHenry County College, 8900 Route 14 in Crystal Lake.
The Prevent Cancer Super Colon is an interactive educational tool that is teaching people all across America that colorectal cancer is preventable, treatable and beatable. As visitors walk through the Prevent Cancer Super Colon, they get an up-close look at healthy colon tissue; tissue with nonmalignant colorectal disease like Crohn's and colitis; colorectal polyps; and various stages of colorectal cancer.
The exhibit educates visitors with messages about the importance of screening, explains risk factors and symptoms, outlines prevention tips, and lists several treatment options for colorectal cancer. What's more, when people exit the exhibit, they are given a reference guide, based on information from the exhibit.
Other activities during the free health fair will include free health screenings, physician presentations, prizes and more. In addition, vascular screenings will be available on Centegra Wellness on the Move mobile health unit. Cost is $129 and registration is required for the vascular screenings. Call (877) 236-8347 to register.
