See what's in store for Elgin's newest parks:

Elgin residents are invited to attend a park planning meeting at 7 p.m. Tuesday, May 26, in the west conference room of The Centre as part of the Parks and Recreation Advisory Board's regular meeting. Residents interested in participating in the design of Phase One for the West Regional Park, on Plank Road west of Switzer Road, can review a concept plan. The park is 224 acres and will be developed in phases over a number of years. Initial improvements may include tennis courts, basketball courts, a playground, a picnic shelter and two soccer fields, as well as a parking lot. Residents on Elgin's east side near Poplar Creek Drive and Chicago Street may be interested in plans to acquire parcels to create a new neighborhood park on Ash Drive. Tree City:

The Arbor Day Foundation has named Cary a Tree City USA community for the second straight year. The foundation is recognizing the village for its commitment to community forestry. "Trees are a vital component of the village's infrastructure," Mayor Tom Kierna said in a prepared statement. "Trees provide numerous environmental and economical benefits, and I am pleased to see the village honored again for its commitment to community forestry."

Delay in trash pickup:

Trash collection in Elgin will be delayed one day because of Memorial Day. Waste Management will collect trash, recycling and yard waste through Saturday, May 30. Normal trash collection will resume on Monday, June 1. For details, call public works at (847) 695-3160.

Huntley hosts basketball clinic:

The Huntley Park District REC Center, 12015 Mill St., is hosting a girls' basketball clinic led by players for the Chicago Sky. The clinic, open to girls in grades three through eight, will be from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, May 30 at the REC Center. Register by May 22. The clinic costs $25 for residents and $30 for nonresidents. Every participant will receive a T-shirt and a voucher for a Chicago Sky home game. Call (847) 669-3180.
