Wife of Lakemoor trustee arrested again on domestic battery accusation

For the second time in 10 months, the wife of Lakemoor Village Trustee Nick Weber is behind bars facing allegations she assaulted her husband.

Police arrested Laura L. Weber, 39, late Tuesday on charges of domestic battery and resisting a peace officer stemming from an altercation at the family home.

A criminal complaint filed Wednesday morning indicates Laura Weber threw a suitcase at her husband.

"(The suitcase) struck Nicholas R. Weber in the nose, causing nose to bleed and swell," the complaint states.

A second complaint alleges Weber pushed and shoved a Lakemoor police officer as he attempted to arrest her on the domestic battery charge.

Weber spent the night in the McHenry County jail and appeared in court this morning, when a judge set her bond at a combined $3,500 on the two Class A misdemeanor charges. She later posted bond and is free pending her next court date, April 16.

Police arrested both Webers on domestic battery charges in June after a dispute at their home in the 400 block of Willow Road turned violent. Reports said Nick Weber struck his wife, causing her to suffer a swollen nose. Laura Weber, police said, also struck her husband, leaving him with a cut ear and scratches on his forehead.

McHenry County prosecutors later dismissed charges against both after determining they would be unable to force one to testify against the other without violating their Fifth Amendment rights against self-incrimination.

Nick Weber first was elected to a two-year term on the village board in 2003 and then won re-election to a four-year term in 2005. He initially filed documents to run in Tuesday's municipal election, but later withdrew his candidacy and will let his term expire May 1.
