Chicago man charged with murder in fatal stabbing of Des Plaines woman
A 63-year-old Chicago man faces a first-degree murder charge in the deadly stabbing last week of a Des Plaines woman, police announced Thursday.
Dwayne Thompson, of the 4700 block of West Van Buren Street, was arrested Tuesday at a grocery store on Chicago’s West Side, after police said investigators developed evidence linking him to the slaying of Roberta Langan.
Langan, 50, was found suffering from multiple stab wounds Dec. 5 by police called to her apartment building in the 1400 block of Ashland Avenue in Des Plaines, authorities said. She died the next day at a hospital.
According to Des Plaines police, investigators identified Thompson as a person of interest through electronic evidence and a witness placing him with Langan at the apartment building the night of the crime.
Additional investigation yielded video surveillance footage of Thompson leaving the area dressed in the same coat he was wearing when taken into custody, police said.
After his arrest, Thompson made statements confirming information developed by investigators and told police he recently met Langan and was going to rent a room from her at her apartment, police said. He also stated they had a brief dating relationship, according to police.
Thompson remained in custody Thursday awaiting a detention hearing.
