Candidate brings intelligence, energy

Maria Peterson is an outstanding, hardworking and intelligent person whom Illinois House District 52 is lucky to have as a candidate in this election.

Maria believes that women have the right to make decisions for their bodies. As we have all witnessed across this country, laws that many of us grew up with that protected our bodies are no longer our rights. All women deserve to have the freedom and right to make decisions for their own bodies. This right must be protected. This is a type of concern that no male body has ever had to experience.

Maria supports environmental protection. After the U.S. Supreme Court weakened federal Clean Water Act protections, seasonal streams and wetlands lost federal protection. Illinois has a bill to protect the remaining wetlands in our state which are vital to capturing floodwater particularly during heavy rains. Additionally, wetlands act like a sponge that filters pollutants in the water which then improves the quality of our water supply. Maria will work to get this protection passed.

Maria has worked and will continue to work to pass laws protecting everyone from gun violence. Allowing individuals to own military style weapons which are designed to kill people quickly or gun switches which convert a handgun to a “selective fire machine pistol” must be stopped. These weapons create a climate of terror for people going to school, church, grocery stores, concerts, work or just going about their lives. All of us, our children, our grandchildren and all of our professional law enforcement and first responders should not have to live in terror of confronting weapons that are used in war.

I support Maria Peterson as Illinois representative for District 52. She will represent me with her abundant energy, intelligence and hard work.
