Glen Ellyn-Wheaton Chorale launches holiday of ‘Wonder and Light’ with concerts Nov. 22-23
Preparing hearts for a holiday season of peace and joy, the Glen Ellyn-Wheaton Chorale will present its annual winter concert on Nov. 22-23 at Elmhurst Christian Reformed Church.
This much-beloved choir — which has been performing in our area for close to 40 years — is known for setting the holiday mood with a mix of traditional holiday music, special guest artists, and a fun-filled approach that leaves their audiences smiling.
This year, they will launch audiences into the holiday season on the weekend prior to Thanksgiving — with “Wintersong 2024: Wonder and Light.”
From lobby carolers, to a range of pieces voiced by the full 65-voice choir and vocal ensemble, to featured guest soloists, the evening is designed to guide its audience into a musical realm where the ordinary dissolves and the extraordinary is unveiled.
Conducted by acclaimed musical director Jennifer Whiting, the concert will also feature professional artists including a string quintet, organ, piano, percussion, and harpist Jennifer Ruggieri.
Camille Saint Saëns’ elegant “Christmas Oratorio” anchors the program which also includes seasonal works by Lauridsen, Cecilia McDowall, Arnesen, Kirchner, Forrest, and others.
The audience will also be invited to join in with classics like “Joy to the World” and the “Hallelujah” Chorus — and may even catch a glimpse of Santa Claus along the way!
The concerts will be at 7 p.m. Friday, Nov. 22, and 3 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 23, at Elmhurst Christian Reformed Church, 149 W. Brush Hill Road. Anima, Glen Ellyn Children's Chorus Lobby Carolers, will set the holiday mood before the shows.
Tickets are $25, $20 for age 62 or older, or $15 for students.
Tickets for this musical journey are available from any chorale member, at the door, or may be purchased online at gewchorale.org.
