Kane County plans satellite offices for health department, clerk in Elgin

Residents of northern Kane County soon will be spared drives to Aurora and Geneva to receive some county services following the county’s acquisition of a building in Elgin for new satellite offices.

The building, 2170 Point Blvd., will house space for the public health department, the county clerk and court services.

“This is going to continue our outreach to make sure that both northern Kane County, as well as the mid and southern part of Kane County, have equity in their services,” Kane County Board Chair Corinne Pierog said, adding that the acquisition was a bipartisan effort.

“Everyone came together because they realize the value of this building and what it represents for Kane County,” she said.

The one-story building near the I-90 interchange at Randall Road spans more than 46,000 square feet and was purchased for $2.8 million. It’s expected to be ready for occupancy in early 2025.

It’s the county’s first building acquisition since 2009, when it purchased the former Montgomery Ward building in St. Charles. That site is now home to the circuit clerk’s office and the Kane County Branch Court.

Health Department Executive Director Michael Isaacson said his department only has offices currently, with no space for programs or to provide clinical or behavioral health services.

“This is really focused on the community,” he said. “We want to be able to provide a wide array of clinical services, and now we’re in a place where we can finally serve people in a place that’s convenient for them.”

The health department’s existing location in Aurora will remain fully operational.

County Clerk Jack Cunningham said he’s been working on getting a satellite office in the northern part of the county for more than 20 years. The clerk’s office will offer services such as voter support and vital records.

The new site also will include a satellite office for court services, which operates divisions providing probation, pretrial services and diagnostic services under the chief judge of the 16th Judicial Circuit.
