Back Mount Prospect parks referendum

It’s been 55 years since a bond referendum was passed to improve Mt. Prospect Park District. Since then, the Park District has worked hard to properly maintain its parks, pools, and recreation facilities, keeping them safe and enjoyable for all residents. However, to address key age-related infrastructure and safety challenges and improve the District’s recreational offerings, a bond referendum has been placed on the November 5, 2024 ballot.

Proceeds from the voter-approved $46.2 million referendum would be used to replace the 40-year-old Big Surf Pool with an all-ages community pool; construct a new Lions Recreation Center to replace the 1970s facility; add new outdoor courts and other amenities at Lions Memorial Park; and enhance indoor program opportunities by adding air conditioning and a turf field at RecPlex.

The referendum is a modest investment of $196 annually for a $400,000 home and will provide many benefits. In addition to expanding programming opportunities, the facility and park improvements will enhance our quality of life; attract new families, professionals, and businesses to Mount Prospect; and protect our property values.

I appreciate that the Park District has carefully listened to our community and developed a proposal that meets the needs of our entire community, including active seniors.

I proudly support Mt. Prospect Park District, and I unconditionally support the 2024 Bond Referendum.
