Ascension Alexian Brothers opens neurosciences unit to meet demands of aging population
Patients were on the move at Ascension Alexian Brothers hospital in Elk Grove Village, where a new 36-bed neurosciences unit opened last week. The 24,000-square-foot space encompasses the fifth floor of the hospital’s east tower — one of two new floors added to the top. The sixth floor is staying vacant for now, while officials evaluate future needs. It marks the completion of a three-phased, $107 million hospital modernization and expansion project.
Alo Yoga, Ben & Jerry’s, Gregorys Coffee coming to Woodfield Mall in Schaumburg
Alo Yoga, Ben & Jerry’s and Gregorys Coffee are three popular brands on their way to Woodfield Mall in the coming months. They will join the recently opened Abercrombie Kids and Size Boutique stores in providing new opportunities for visitors to the regional shopping center in 2025.
Google to open Oak Brook retail space next month
Tech giant Google opens its first Midwest brick-and-mortar retail store at 63 Oakbrook Center in Oak Brook next month. Google Store Oakbrook marks the company’s fifth physical retail store. It will be the first located in a shopping center, according to a prepared statement from Google.
Taco time: Fat Rosie’s to open this week in Rosemont
It soon will be taco time in Rosemont as Fat Rosie’s Taco & Tequila Bar opens next week in Parkway Bank Park, taking over the space once occupied by Park Tavern. It’s the fifth suburban location for Fat Rosie’s and its vast selection of tacos, tequila and more. The eatery will open at 5433 Park Place on Wednesday, Oct. 30.
Rolling Meadows bans retail sale of THC products
Citing public safety, Rolling Meadows officials banned the retail sale of hemp-derived THC, kratom and tianeptine products within city limits and urged neighboring towns and state legislators to take similar action. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration hasn’t approved the products for use, and city officials say they exist in a legal gray area with unclear rules that make enforcement difficult.
Wheeling paves way for Gas N Wash to get steep property tax break
A company set to build a gas station, a convenience store and other businesses on Wheeling’s west side is in line for a steep property tax discount. The village board last Monday formally declared the land, on the northeast corner of Hintz and Old Buffalo Grove roads, blighted and agreed to a 12-year reduction in its assessment rate for Tinley Park-based Gas N Wash. The deal awaits final approval from the Cook County Board.
