Aurora breaks ground on first new downtown development in 20 years

Aurora city officials Thursday broke ground on the first new downtown development in two decades.

The new Residences at Eastbank apartments are the product of Chicago-based developer DAC Development.

“This is a long time coming and a labor of love,” said Danny Rezko, president of DAC Development, to the crowd assembled for the occasion.

Situated on the east bank of the Fox River, the $90 million, 343,421-square-foot development will consist of five floors and 258 apartments, a mix of studios, one-, two- and three-bedroom units.

“We had factories that sat on our riverfront for generations, not recognizing the value of the beautiful river that runs through the heart of our city,” said Mayor Richard Irvin, who touted the project as one of the most significant projects of his administration.

The new community will feature 310 parking spaces in an inside parking garage where residents will park on the same level as their apartment unit. Amenities include private balconies, a swimming pool, and a dog park.
