Who’s filed so far for municipal elections in Naperville and Wheaton
Mayoral and city council candidates in DuPage County towns began filing their nominating petitions Monday, and some races are already getting crowded.
The filing period is underway in suburbs that could hold a primary, if necessary, to winnow down the candidate field before municipal elections next spring.
Here’s an early look at how races are shaping up:
Wheaton
A total of four city council seats are up for election on April 1, 2025.
The city clerk’s office has so far received filing petitions for three incumbents: Lynn Robbins, who represents the city’s West District; Scott Brown, who holds the council’s North District seat; and Scott Weller, who represents the South District. The East District seat also will be on the ballot.
If more than four candidates file for any one district position, a primary election will be held on Feb. 25.
Naperville
Four city council seats are up next April. Seven people, including three incumbents, have filed to run in that election.
Incumbents Jennifer Bruzan Taylor, Ian Holzhauer and Benjamin White are seeking re-election. Naperville planning and zoning commissioners Derek McDaniel and Meghna Bansal also filed paperwork to run in the election. Naperville Library Board President Ashfaq Syed and Naperville Park District Board President Mary Gibson also filed for election.
Incumbent Paul Leong declined to say if he was seeking re-election but noted he did not take out a petition and has not turned one in. He also said he is unaware of anyone else circulating a petition on his behalf.
