CASA Lake County raises over $480,000 at 2024 gala to support foster care advocacy

On Friday Sept. 27, CASA Lake County hosted its highly anticipated 2024 Gala at the Westin Chicago Northshore, drawing over 200 attendees who united to support the mission of advocating for children in foster care. Thanks to the generosity of attendees and supporters, the event raised an impressive $480,180, which will be instrumental in expanding CASA Lake County's services.

The funds raised will enable CASA Lake County to recruit, supervise and train additional volunteers, with the goal of advocating for at least 192 more children in foster care throughout the next year.

A highlight of the evening was the recognition of Joanna Lynn, honored with the Terri Zenner Award for her unwavering dedication as a CASA volunteer, board member and Gala chairperson for seven consecutive years. Attendees were moved by the inspiring story of Sanaii Williams, a former CASA youth and current Emory University student, who shared her journey of perseverance through foster care. Sanaii’s heartfelt tribute to her CASAs, Pam and Judy, underscored the profound impact that advocacy can have on young lives.

The evening was further elevated by a surprise $100,000 donation from Marcus Lemonis and Camping World, presented in honor of Brent Moody, CASA Lake County's board president. This generous contribution significantly boosts CASA's ability to serve the community.

“We are incredibly grateful for the support we received at our Gala,” Executive Director Terri Zenner Greenberg said. “The success of this event means we can continue our vital work in advocating for children in foster care, but we need more volunteers to turn these funds into action.”

CASA Lake County is actively seeking passionate individuals to join its volunteer team. Those interested in making a difference in the lives of children in foster care are encouraged to consider becoming a CASA volunteer or to share this opportunity with others who may be interested.
