Naperville North rallies in second half to beat Lincoln-Way West
Naperville North has been in plenty of exciting games in its first year in the Southwest Valley Conference this season, and that continued Friday night at Lincoln-Way West.
Ball State-bound quarterback Jacob Bell tossed three more touchdown passes, the defense came up with three interceptions, and the Huskies pulled out a 38-33 come-from-behind victory in the conference crossover game against the Warriors (3-3).
Zach Mally got Naperville North (4-2) off to a good start with an interception on the Warriors' first drive, returning it 10 yards to the Lincoln-Way’s 29-yard line. Three plays later, Bell hit Quinn Morris near the left corner of the end zone for a 21-yard TD and 7-0 lead.
The Warriors came back to go up 10-7 after one quarter and led 17-7 until Tyler Duewel’s 20-yard field goal. Eugene Mumford set up the drive with an interception, and Bell rifled a deep slant to Morris for first-and-goal from the 2.
Naperville North found the end zone shortly after on a 31-yard bomb from Bell to Morris to tie the game at 17 with 2:05 left in the second quarter. Morris made the catch while falling down and fighting off a defensive back.
Lincoln-Way West's 24-yard field goal gave the Warriors a 20-17 halftime advantage.
Naperville North took the second half kickoff and marched 80 yards. On fourth-and-goal from the 2, Bell rolled left and hit Brock Pettaway for a score and 24-20 lead.
That lead didn't last long as the Warriors ran back the ensuing kickoff 98 yards.
Morris put the Huskies back on top to stay with a circus catch deep in the right corner of the end zone, dragging his foot to stay inbounds on a 22-yard score for a 31-26 lead.
Bell started the fourth quarter with a 19-yard TD pass to Chico Thomas and a 38-26 lead.
The Warriors rallied but Naperville North’s third interception, this one by Griffin Jurjovec, helped seal the win.
