Elgin has added a new mobile command unit that first responders can use on site at emergencies or large events. Elgin Fire Chief Robb Cagann, right, and Division Chief of Emergency Management Mike Oine said the 43-foot long vehicle features a 44-foot high mast with dual infrared-capable cameras, phone and radio systems, wi-fi, can connect to the city’s network and can operate on its generators for four to five days without refilling.
