$900K bond set for man awaiting retrial in pimped wife case

WOODSTOCK, Ill. (AP) - A $900,000 bond has been set for a northern Illinois man sentenced to 50 years in prison for shooting the man who responded to an online ad for sex with his pregnant wife.

The Northwest Herald (http://bit.ly/2rDf4Wn ) reports 32-year-old Timothy Smith was returned to the McHenry County Jail earlier this year to await retrial. He was held without bond until Friday.

Smith was convicted of first-degree murder in the 2011 death of a 48-year-old man. An appeals court overturned his conviction in 2015, ruling the trial judge should have let jurors consider convicting him of involuntary manslaughter instead.

Smith's wife testified at trial that the man became aggressive, and Smith came out and shot him. Smith told police he was trying to scare the man and didn't purposely shoot him.
