Glen Crest Eighth Grade Earns Awards and School Honors
On Tuesday, May 29, before the entire student body of Glen Crest Middle School, parents and relatives, the eighth grade graduating students at the middle school were given the honors and awards they earned during the 2011-2012 school year as well as special awards they received for showing outstanding achievements during their three years of attendance. Principal Todd Schrage coordinated the Award Program and guided the presenters and award recipients through the presentations.
First on the Award Ceremony agenda were the Academic Department Awards. World Language awards were presented to Brianna Kay and Alban Dulaj; Literacy to Johann Gan, Brianna Kay, and Kyle Riebock; Mathematics to Stephanie Jaster and Johann Gan; Science to Kiran Sandiford and Mike Thompson, Social Studies to Rachel Woods and Brianna Kay. The Daughters of the American Colonists presented Rebecca Han with a special book for her outstanding work in the study of history.
Exploratory Awards are academic honors that include art, computer education, health, home arts, music and physical education. The recipients of these awards are: Art and Design, Joshua Jackson and Megan Wong; Computer Education, Katie Longo and Stephanie Mauer; Health Education, Courtney Andexler and Stephanie Jaser; Home Arts, Holly Moberg and Grace Rose; Music, Ashley Cohen and Avinash Panjwani; Physical Education, Bridget Pyle and Jose Hernandez.
The Fine Arts Department presented the following awards: Director's Award for Symphonic Band, Gus Geiger; Director's Award for Chorus, Madalyn Bradley and Kelly Burdick; Director's Award for Orchestra, Braden Sim; Director's Award for Theater Arts, Sylvia Carlson.
Athletic Awards include the Spartan Three-Sport Award given to Ally McConville, Kyle Carli, Michael Thompson, Kevin Berenschot, GiDean Helck, Michael King and Jacob Gary. Spartan Four-Sport Awards were won by Payton Carli, Nicole Schmeider, Tim Marks, aand Kiran Sandiford.

The Student Union Leadership Award winners are Ted Hume, Sylvia Carlson, Jordan Drake, Anna Dyrda. The Glen Crest Leadership Award was presented to Ted Hume and Kyle Riebock.
The Daughters of the American Revolution Good Citizenship Award was won by Chase Moloney and Mackenzie Watterson. GiDean Helck and Kevin Elerby won the Glen Crest Spirit Award. Tim Marks and Nick Sabri were presented with the Kindness Award.
