Event helps business leaders refresh their skills

About 70 local business leaders and entrepreneurs were among the audience of a nationwide educational event Wednesday hosted by Express Employment Professionals of Rolling Meadows and the Daily Herald Business Ledger.

The 2012 Refresh Leadership Simulcast featured motivational talks and discussions from former Dallas Cowboys players and Pro Football Hall of Fame members Troy Aikman and Emmitt Smith; leadership consultant and author Patrick Lencioni, and sociologist and author Bertice Berry, Ph.D.

Locally, the simulcast was held at the Daily Herald Office Center in Arlington Heights, one of 200 locations throughout the U.S. and Canada to hold the event.

Lencioni spoke on how to identify natural human tendencies that plague all leadership as he identified in his first best-selling book, "The Five Temptations of a CEO."

Berry challenged the leaders to find their purpose in life and helped participants identify different learning styles.

"Being a leader means more than just managing employees," said Greg Geissenberger, Rolling Meadows Express Professionals franchisee. "Even top performing employees can lose focus without the support of a great leader driving them to excel. It is crucial for leaders today to learn a leadership and communications style that works best for them and the people they manage."
