Wisconsin-Milwaukee beats Loyola 59-41

MILWAUKEE — Ryan Allen scored 14 points, Kyle Kelm added 13, and Wisconsin-Milwaukee rolled to a 59-41 win Thursday night over Loyola of Chicago in the Horizon League opener for both teams.

Kaylon Williams had 12 points, seven rebounds, seven assists and three steals for the Panthers (6-1), who led by only four at halftime before running away with the game in the second half.

Walt Gibler scored 13 for the Ramblers (1-5), and Ben Averkamp had 12.

Milwaukee, the defending Horizon champion, dominated inside, outscoring Loyola 34-8 in the paint and 16-2 on second-chance points. The Panthers outrebounded the Ramblers 42-20.

Milwaukee led by just three, 25-22, after a 3-pointer by Loyola’s Chim Kadima two minutes into the second half. But a 21-7 run over the next 10 minutes put the Panthers in control, and the Ramblers never got within single digits the rest of the way.
